NAIDOC WEEK

On Wednesday 12 August the whole school celebrated NAIDOC Day. This year’s theme for NAIDOC was ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’.

We thought that it was important that not only do the students deepen their knowledge of the traditional owners of this region but also to develop more of an understanding of other Indigenous groups, languages and traditions. Each block was allocated a different region to research. They then displayed their work for the whole school to walk around and see.

As a whole school art project we decided to create a Rainbow Serpent. The serpent is a significant creature in many traditional stories and is identified as the creator of the land.

Every student and staff member contributed to the project by painting a paper plate that was then assembled to make the serpent that was displayed at the NAIDOC assembly.

A very big thank you to Miss Bridge for coordinating the event, and to all staff for their support.
