HELPING YOUR CHILD AT HOME

We have been fortunate to engage the services of the Dsylexia-SPELD Foundation who provide support to schools and parents with some very practical tips about supporting their child at home with reading and writing. Some of their ideas include reading to your child as often as possible using as many types of texts as possible.  For example, point out the road signs as you drive along in the car, read aloud from recipe books, talk to your child and extend their vocabulary, point to the words as you read, ask your child about the pictures in the book, play ‘I Spy’, read lots of nursery rhymes and enjoy talking, reading and writing together. Kim’s session involved many other practical tips.  Please contact the school if you would like any further information.
